Tabouli is an artist and illustrator born in Prince Edward Island and based in Montreal. He holds a Masters in Architecture with a background in Mathematics, both of which strongly inspire his artistic narrative.

Drawing with inks on paper, his approach to design and illustration focuses on isometric projection and manipulation of depth and altitude. Applying this architectural form of drawing to ubiquitous subject matter, he breaks down objects into components and reconfigures them to create abstract, yet familiar, spatial forms.

While exploring both the accuracies and idiosyncrasies of isometric projection, he applies meticulous, three-dimensional procedures on overlooked, two-dimensional imagery, yielding results that are complex, evocative and unbound to their original meaning.

Tabouli’s work draws influence from Escher’s unconventional perspectives, Dali’s surrealist landscapes, and the methodical playfulness of neo-futurist architecture group, Archigram. Inspired by structure, order and identifiable imagery; and motivated to celebrate the geometry of the mundane, his output is technically-focused, but cheeky and curious at the same time.
